Kenosha, Wis — A 3-0 deficit entering the second half was too much for the Michigan Tech women’s soccer team, as the Huskies fell 3-1 at Parkside on Sunday afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Good job to Coach Nikolic and Parkside on the win today, anyone can beat anyone in the GLIAC on any given day. Head coach Bulut Ozturk said. It was a tough defeat again today, but it’s definitely something we want to learn from. We don’t have much time before our next match, so we have to put this behind us and just focus on the next one.
Michigan Tech (3-3-0, 1-1-0) faced rain and wind at Wood Road Football Field in the second round of conference play. The game was a tale of two halves as Parkside (4-2-0 1-1-0) did everything in the first 45 minutes.
Rangers took an early lead, with Miah Strokosch finding the net just seven minutes from time. The damage would continue for the Huskies as Parkside capitalized twice, scoring touchdowns in the 14th and 32nd minutes to put the black and gold in a hole.
In the 28th minute, the Huskies had a chance to score when Casey Boniface made a penalty kick. However, the pitch was out of bounds and he touched the ball.
The Huskies found their footing in the second half, and Stephanie Yeager scored on a free kick in the 62nd minute to make it 3-1 for the Rangers.
The Huskies didn’t run out of real estate to pull off the comeback, despite opportunities coming off corner kicks in the contest’s final frames.
The Huskies’ attacking urgency in the second half led to 18 shots compared to the Rangers’ 16, and the Black and Gold scored eight corners to move up to sixth in Parkside.
Senior goalie Gracie Vanlengevelde made five saves on the day and Ranger goalie Mia Gayton stopped eight shots.
The Huskies return to action next week, welcoming Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State to Kearly Stadium. A tilt against Saginaw Valley State is set for Friday (Sept. 16) at 7 p.m. The contest against Ferris State will take place on Sunday (September 18) at noon.
