At the event, NAVSUP BSC Commanding Officer Capt. Gene Cash presented the 2022 Command Post Awards, recognizing the contributions of more than 600 civilian employees.
“Even in the midst of a global pandemic, you have shown resilience, agility and focus on the mission,” Cash said. “Thank you all for your Navy and what you do for our country every day.”
During the awards, Tina Cancel, who served as supervisor for NAVSUP BSC, was recognized as Leader of the Year for her exemplary financial leadership in delivering information technology (IT) and data management solutions for the benefit.
“We all serve the fight in our own way, and I’m very proud of the ground I’ve gained during my time as comptroller. I’m fortunate to have been able to serve and learn by leading a small and powerful team,” Serge said.
Rhonda Bauriedl, an IT specialist for One Touch Support (OTS), received the Employee of the Year Award for her performance as OTS lead analyst.
Bowridle completed a developmental opportunity in the Navy’s Government Acquisition Card Program Office and served as a Scrum Master for three robotic process automation teams comprised of Department of Defense (DoD) cyber scientists during the year.
“It is an honor to be recognized for my contributions at NAVSUP BSC,” said Bauredel. To be given the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of people to support the Warrior, and to receive this recognition for doing so, is an honor and a highlight of my career at BSC. I appreciate those around me who are always willing to help me in my endeavors, and I hope I can repay them in kind.
Kathryn Goll, IT Specialist for Aflot Applications Branch, received the Employee of the Year award for her performance as a senior analyst for Windows Hazardous Inventory Control System (HICSWIN) and Hazardous Inventory Control System (HICS) 4.0 applications.
“I am honored and grateful to receive the award for Junior Employee of the Year 2022,” said Goll. “For me, this award means that the work I do is recognized and appreciated by my supervisors and the command.”
One Touch Support (OTS) IT Specialist Tito Malig has been named Employee of the Year for his performance as an OTS trainer. Malig has provided classroom and virtual training as well as user support to more than 1,300 military, civilian and contractor personnel.
“I am truly honored and humbled by the trust and confidence of my supervisor,” Malig said.
The Robotic Process Automation team earned Team of the Year honors for developing six attended automations and two unattended automations that add value to the mission and increase efficiency within the NAVSUP enterprise. Their efforts exceeded the annual goal by 12,000 and saved 14,118 man-hours of automated equipment.
The team played a key support role during the summer session with DoD Cyber Scholars, partnering with 12 students to complete UiPath training and develop automations.
NAVSUP BSC Team of the Year recipients include: Darin Alleyne, Allison Holley, Kaz Iracchi, Kyle Ivory, Edward Picosh, Tracy Riggle and Shana Tobia.
“Receiving this award means we have come together as one cohesive team,” said Kaz Erasi, IT specialist and RPA team member. “We can work together to provide our customers with automation solutions, as well as to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise, so that our automation continues to meet our customers’ needs.”
Following the awards presentation, Lynn Briggs, former regulatory IT project manager, and Becky Quarry, former regulatory IT specialist, policy and planning, were inducted into the NAVSUP BSC Hall of Fame.
During her 35-year career with NAVSUP BSC, Briggs successfully led multiple branches in the Technology Services Department and served as server hosting, enterprise architect and NAVSUP webmaster project manager for the NAVSUP Defense Research and Engineering Network and Defense Information Systems Agency.
During her 38-year NAVSUP BSC career, Quarry has served in various capacities. She served as director of the NAVSUP Solutions Department, Defense Solutions Division, Logistics Solutions Division, and Strategic Manpower Planning Group.
Also recognized during the ceremony were: Thomas Wirfel, data strategist; Dirk Henry, NAVSUP Commercial Wireless Project Leader; and Matthew Dyer, retail operations management systems expert, each received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
Wirfel was recognized for his work with the Naval Data Platform (NDP) from March 2014 to June 2022. As the information strategy leader, he provided leadership on more than 40 unique interfaces, including the establishment of the Netza platform and Navy Enterprise Resource Planning.
Henry was recognized for his efforts in successfully designing and maintaining NAVSUP’s commercial wireless network from January 2013 to March 2022.
Dyer was recognized for his efforts in supporting multiple applications for the NAVSUP Enterprise from January 1999 to July 2022. In particular, Dyer spent countless hours, including nights and weekends, supporting Warfighter with technical support for the retail operations management application.
“With 16 employees being recognized this year, there were more than 120 nominations for team and individual awards,” said NAVSUP BSC Executive Director Brian Zirbel. “The competition was tough and I feel privileged to lead a truly talented and dedicated team of professionals.”
NAVSUP BSC provides information systems support to the Navy through logistics, supply chain management, transportation, finance and accounting systems design, development and maintenance and is one of 11 commands under Commander NAVSUP.
