With the environmental cost of the clothing industry becoming a growing concern as a major contributor to increased global warming, the hottest trend in fashion isn’t the length of skirts or the color of the season.
It’s durability and resale, with vintage, delivery and online services like Real Real and Poshmark thriving.
In Darien, DCA Thrift Shop on the Post Road has been on that trend for more than 90 years and has become a local hub for fashionistas in the know to shop for premium and contemporary designer goods at thrift store prices.

The new event date is Wednesday, September 14th.
To focus on the need for more environmentally friendly shopping, the Darien Community Association will present a Sustainable Fashion Show on Wednesday, September 14th (which is a new date) featuring designer fashions sold in the store its DCA Thrift.
“The fashion show provides us with a great opportunity to showcase the high-quality clothing and accessories we sell in the store,” said Deb Danile, thrift store manager.
The show will feature local models showcasing clothing styled with items from premium designers including Gucci, Celine, Jil Sander, Valentino and Prada, as well as many contemporary labels such as Rag & Bone, Mother and Helmut Lang.
All clothing, shoes, bags and accessories from the runway, as well as additional merchandise for women, men and children, will be available for sale at a trade event following the show.
“With resale becoming more and more popular, the time was right for us to spotlight the Thrift Store as a great place to go to find sustainable fashion,” said Danile.

Tickets for the event, which will be held at the Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road in Darien, is $25 and can be purchased through the DCA website.
The evening begins with a wine reception at 7 p.m., with the show starting around 7:30 p.m., and shopping to follow.
All tickets shoppers will be entered into a door prize drawing to win a Jimmy Choo handbag.
A separate lottery other designer bags will also be part of the event. Raffle tickets are now available for purchase at the DCA Thrift Shop, 966 Boston Post Road, Darien, as well as at the show. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20.
