Scotland – Schenectady business founder and CEO David Dussault was honored this week with the 2022 Business Leader Award at the Schenectady County Council’s annual business awards. This year’s honorees include three other Schenectady businesses; A transformative redevelopment project along the Mohawk River; and the tourism-promotion organization of the county.

Dussault heads Packaging One Industries, a contract manufacturing company that produces parts and components for some of the biggest names in manufacturing, including General Electric and Rolls-Royce. In the year He started the company in 2006 in a small office in Schenectady.

Since then, Packaging One Industries has expanded to three locations spread across the city, and while P1 is a small business at its core, its impact is unmatched by its small size, Dusaut said.

Products manufactured by Packaging One Industry are used in various industries both domestically and internationally. The company is expanding rapidly and is recognized as an integral part of Schenectady’s prosperity today, said local business leaders who selected Dussault for this year’s honor.

A staff of packaging “helps with design and delivery,” Dussault said.

Dussault traces his motivation for creating the company to his desire to follow in his family’s footsteps and his love for the city. In accepting Wednesday’s award, both values value the community and the loyalty of its employees.

For all his success, he says, the most rewarding part in his eyes is seeing his employees “grow and use their talents.”

Dussault’s biggest passion is learning and seeing his employees grow. He notes that while this award is highly respected and cherished forever, it is the most important award that represents his hardworking employees and the community above all else.

The Nest Restaurant and Bar – Rising Star/Outstanding New Business Award

Located in the heart of downtown Schenectady on State Street, Nest has been recognized for its delicious food and customer reviews, according to the award citation.

The restaurant is located in a renovated waiting room for the Schenectady Railroad Company. While the building’s historic features are still intact, the restaurant has a modern and welcoming atmosphere, according to the release.

The Nest’s menu offers classic Southern comfort food, and although the restaurant is located in the Northeast, it retains all of the warm, homey feel of the South. It is a growing new business and this award is given for its impact and excellence in the community, according to the reference.

Ambition Coffee and Restaurant – Entrepreneur Spirit Award

Located on Jay Street, this bistro has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to the community and network of local businesses in downtown Schenectady. Ambition serves traditional American brunch with a Hollywood-inspired theme.

Armor Studios, NY – Business Innovation Award

Located in a former state armory near SUNY Schenectady, Armory Studios has been recognized for its renovation into an event space and film studio that attracts many visitors for a variety of reasons and events.

Meet Schenectady – Community Partner Award

This non-profit organization is recognized for its work to promote tourism and increase involvement in the community. Led by Todd Garofano, the team does a unique job of not only increasing travel to Schenectady, but also promoting activities and businesses in the city.

River Ledge Apartments – Renaissance Award

This 250-plus-apartment complex is recognized for converting a former landfill on the banks of the Mohawk River near the Rexford Bridge. The property includes extensive landscaping and landscaping on property overlooking the river and bordering the Mohawk-Hudson Bikeway. The property was developed by Luzzi Companies.
