Pokémon enters the world of luxury fashion as it announces its collaboration with Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain.
The Pokémon x Balmain Trainer fashion set takes inspiration from the fashion house’s energetic allure and bold aesthetic, matching it with the Japanese franchise’s love of imagination and play. “Pokémon’s bright pop aesthetic and charming creatures have always appealed to me,” shares Rousteing. “Today, they make me think of an earlier, simpler time, when we all shared a rosy vision of all the positive changes we were sure digital innovation would make possible. And that’s a major reason why I’m so happy to join Pokémon in this collection – because, now, we can all use a reminder of those past moments of hope and optimism.”
Featuring a range of pieces for the Pokémon community, the collaborative collection fuses the franchise’s iconography with signature Balmain apparel, accessories and footwear. An archival labyrinth-inspired “Labyrinth” motif can often be seen in the line-up, appearing across sweaters, t-shirts and graphic shirts. A Pikachu print can also be spotted among key pieces such as outerwear, short-sleeved shirts and leather bags.
A standout design is the capsule’s interpretation of Balmain’s B-Bold sneakers, dressed in a palette of yellow, red, black and cream like a game on a Poké ball. Elsewhere, a series of flared trousers complete the collection.
In partnership with SharpEnd, 15 NFC-enabled badges will be available in selected Balmain stores, which will give customers access to a unique dual partnership experience. It also includes a chance to win VIP tickets to the upcoming Balmain Festival during Paris Fashion Week and instant access to the Balmain Fashion group in Pokémon UNITE.
