Portland is one of the best places to travel on the offseason, according to Washington Post

A certain segment of people loves to complain about Portland. I’m not going to link those complaints, because why give them the satisfaction, but let’s just say the term “hellhole” gets bandied about.

And yet, for a hellhole, people seem to really like this place.

Take, for example, The Washington Post, which earlier this month included Portland in a list of “9 places to go for travel’s offseason, from Texas to Tuscany.”

Texas to Tuscany! And it includes Portland?!

Of course it does, because Portland isn’t just lovely, it is also magical in the fall.

According to The Washington Post, Portland is “one of the West’s food capitals” and, as such, “a year-round destination for travelers who love to eat.”

(As a person who loves to eat year-round, I endorse this.)

The Washington Post interviewed Ben Jacobsen, founder of Jacobsen Salt Co., who said late summer and early fall are his favorite Portland seasons when “the daytime is warm with just a slight chill in the air.”

Jacobsen recommended taking a car to the Fruit Loop and then attempting to get a table at Kann (good luck with that!).

If you can’t get into Kann, or you’re just looking for something sweet and portable, I have my own recommendations for visitors, none of which require a reservation or even a car really.
