Preparation of hockey for the DePaul Invitational


Chicago – The Virginia Tech volleyball team travels to Chicago to compete in the DePaul Invitational on Friday, September 9th. The Hokies will look to continue their three-game winning streak with games against Eastern Michigan, DePaul and St. Louis.

Things to know



Scouting Eastern Michigan


The Hokies will play Eastern Michigan for the first time since 1987. Freshman Sabrina Graham currently leads the Eagles in kills with 65. Junior Olivia Szylar has 166 assists and three kills this season. Senior Krista Blakely had 15 kills for Eastern Michigan against Xavier on Sept. 3, the 13th match of her career with double-digit kills.



DePaul Scouting


Junior Jill Pressley was named to the all-tournament team during the Falcon Invitational last weekend. Averaged 3.31 kills per set, 2.69 digs per set and 3.92 points per set in three matches. Also, at the Falcon Invitational, junior Rachel Kraswski recorded a season-high 26 digs. Another player to watch is sophomore Maggie Jones, who has a .294 hitting percentage this season.



Scouting St. Louis


So far in the 2022 season, the Billikens are 4-2. Sophomore Mack Hill leads the team with 60 kills and a .264 attack percentage. Graduate student Dimitra Tziarli has a team-high 11 blocks, while junior Carly Rogers leads the team with 105 digs. The Billikens have been strong at the service line, posting 69 aces so far, to just 36 from the opposition. Irmak Goksen leads the team with 19, followed by Rogers with 14.



Receive respect


Last weekend, the Hokies went undefeated at the Hockey Invitational. Two players took home the honors: Maddie Slagle And Annabelle Zier. Slagle was named MVP of the Hokie Invitational after recording 33 digs, 3.67 digs per set and a .975 receiving percentage over the three matches. Zier earned a spot on the all-tournament team, finishing the weekend with 17 blocks, 16 kills and a .500 attack percentage.





Next


The Hokies will host the Virginia Tech Classic starting Thursday, September 15th. It welcomes Tech Up State, Norfolk State and Western Carolina. Hockey’s first game will be Thursday against Norfolk State at 5:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against App State or WCU on Friday.
