San Antonio welcomes Ukrainian delegations interested in doing business

Saint Anthony – Nearly 70 Ukrainian business and community leaders came to San Antonio looking for new opportunities to one day help their war-torn country and battered economy recover.

“They want us. We need them,” said Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia, European City Council Liaison, District 4 representative.

The Ukrainian San Antonio organization, which includes much of the city’s large Ukrainian community, approached her with the idea.

Rocha Garcia and the city’s Office of International Engagement organized Wednesday’s meeting with local business leaders.

San Antonio is one of three cities on the delegation’s itinerary, along with Chicago and San Francisco.

“We are now open to opportunities,” said Ostap Karish, a business consultant with the group.

Perhaps some of them could be mutually beneficial by sharing technology and research, he said.

A good example that came up during the meeting was cement.

Now that more federal infrastructure dollars are available, communities need more cement for their projects.

Rocha García is Ukraine’s leading cement producer.

“I can help transport all the cement you need,” one of the Ukrainians told the crowd.

“So those are opportunities that we have to talk about,” she said. “How can we both benefit?”
