And she’s doing it in grand style. Williams’ 2022 US Open outfit isn’t just an eye-catching look on court, though she’s had quite a few. It’s full of meaning and stands as a sartorial tribute to the incredible legacy she leaves behind.
To play her first match at the 2022 US Open, Serena Williams wore a black dress with sheer Nike panels covered in glitter, People reports. The glittering look boasts a six-layer skirt to honor her previous six US Open titles – and is a fitting ensemble as she bids for a record 24th Grand Slam title.
Her sneakers are just as adorable. The designer opted for the NikeCourt Flare 2, featuring 400 mobile diamonds, her initials engraved on the medial side and an embellished swoosh. The crystal-encrusted outfit, which Williams co-designed, is a nod to the costume traditionally worn by figure skaters. “Inspired by the graceful competition outfits worn by figure skaters, the embellished bodice and skirt put Serena in the spotlight and give her freedom of movement,” Nike said in a statement.
Olympia Ohanian, who is known for her style statements, matched her mom in a sparkly Nike outfit and a statement beaded hairdo.
