The CES 2023 Technology Trends session will discuss how digital health technologies are transforming homes into wellness hubs and SK Biopharmaceuticals’ epilepsy wearables on Tuesday in Las Vegas, Nev.
The session was moderated by CTA’s VP of Research, Steve Koenig, who highlighted global challenges and technological innovations to address in each industry. Among the main themes mentioned by Koenig were the metaverse for retail and digital innovation as a more immersive experience, 5G networks as a foundation to enable more widespread innovation, smart factories as more efficient and sustainable technological innovations.
Regarding health technologies, Koenig said, “The transformation of new digital health technologies is becoming a tool for extending care to remote areas and bringing care into the home environment.”
He mentioned the growing number of sensors in smartphones that enable better health management and highlighted some examples that will be presented at CES 2023.
One such example is MedWand, which integrates multiple clinical sensors into a single handheld device to facilitate better telehealth.
MedWand’s VP of clinical quality and integration, Michael Kurliad, said this not only improves access to health care services, but also improves trust between patient and doctor.
Another digital health technology Koenig highlighted came from Korea’s SK Biopharmaceuticals, which recently won CES 2023 innovation awards for its design and engineering of an epilepsy wearable. The wearable glasses are integrated with AI and mobile technologies that provide real-time monitoring and data-based seizure management for epilepsy patients.
He also mentioned some other innovations from Abbott, who will later deliver keynote lectures on “The Future of Sports Health Technology” and “The Future of Indoor Testing and Diagnostics” on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
In addition to the technologies that enable telehealth, digital therapeutics (DTx) has championed treatments such as diabetes, mental health issues such as stress and anxiety, and fitness technologies as new ways to transform the home gym experience.
Elaborating a bit on Metaverse, he described OVR’s digital olfactory technology, which enables enhanced relaxation therapy by activating the limbic system and engaging the sense of smell with his proprietary VR headset to create simulated environments.
Other health tech innovations on display at CES 2023 include a dual blood pressure and arterial health monitor by CardX, a smart pillow to solve sleep problems by Dozicozy, a digital twin solution that will ensure a footprint in the co-developed pharmaceutical supply chain. Gerresheimer and Merck, and the ViraWarn portable breathalyzer.
Koning closed his remarks by predicting that services, which currently account for 31 percent of consumer spending, will increase in the coming years to support on-demand lifestyles.
