Tech remains No. 5 in AVCA Top 25 – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets


Lexington, Ky. Georgia Tech volleyball has been ranked No. 5 in the AVCA Division 1 Coaches’ Top 25 Women’s Poll for the second consecutive week, the organization announced Monday. The five back-to-back streaks tied the second-highest streak in program history by the Yellow Jackets, joining the 2003 team that hit the mark for four straight weeks.

Tech is one of two ACC teams in the top five and three in the top 10. Ohio State and No. 10 BYU. Louisville and Pitt each advanced to the Final Four, each of the aforementioned teams reaching the 2021 NCAA Tournament, while Ohio State and BYU both advanced to the Sweet 16, while the Jackets eliminated the Buckeyes in their Elite Eight run.

The Jackets’ selection marks the fourth consecutive season in the AVCA’s top 10 heading into the final stages of the 2021 season. Georgia Tech entered the top 10 every week this season after being ranked No. 8 at the end of the 2021 season.

Appearing in the Top 25 for the first time since 2005 at No. 12 on September 30, 2020, Tech has been listed in 41 straight Top 25 polls so far. The Jackets’ back-to-back No. 5 ranking marks the highest ranking for the White and Gold.

Georgia Tech makes history after running the table at the GT Invitational at home. The White and Gold swept both Dayton and FIU to close out their tournament play, as well as a 3-1 win over Arizona State. The Yellow Jackets claimed their own tournament crown as the top outside hitter. Julia Bergman He was named the MVP and is the second-ranked outside hitter. As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently top five in the ACC in hitting percentage (.293), blocks per set (2.41) and aces per set (1.82). Individually, Bergman currently leads the nation in points per set (6.32) and is second in the nation in kills (5.41).

Tech has won 63 of its 75 games since 2019. The Yellow Jackets have won 38 of their 43 home games at O’Keefe Gymnasium.

The Jackets next host the Georgia Tech Classic at 7 p.m. Thursday when No. 8 Ohio State (5-1) welcomes a pair of top-10 opponents to O’Keefe Gymnasium. 1-3) Sunday at 1 pm
