Meet Tech. Sgt. July #IAMIMSC award winner Samantha Weber. Weber, an NCO in charge of intensive outpatient services for the Clinical Services Unit at Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar, California, is part of the Air Force Security Forces Center’s Detachment 2 team.


The #IAMIMSC Awards recognize people whose actions put communication and service before themselves in their workplace or center. To her colleagues and the inmates she supports, Weber promotes an environment where her peers and colleagues are valued, engaged and connected to each other and achieve their mission, said Senior Master Sajit. Daniel Bradley, AFSFC Detachment 2 Senior Enlisted Leader.


“Tech. Sgt. Weber is the epitome of a special wingman and plays a vital role in making sure everyone — including Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Marines, civilians and our captive population — feels included, accepted and respected,” he said.


We asked Weber a few questions about being part of the AFIMSC team and promoting communication across the organization.


Main Responsibilities:- I am responsible for the mental health treatment and rehabilitation of the 132 inmates at the Bridge. I conduct welfare assessments, group and individual therapy if clinically indicated, and advocate for forgiveness and mercy for inmates.


What do you like most about being part of the AFIMSC team?
I enjoy being a member of AFIMSC because they make efforts to make our group inclusive and feel connected.


Why do you think it is important for AFIMSC’s teammates and their families to feel connected to the organization?
As a mental health technician, I know firsthand how important it is for our Airmen and their families to feel that there is something beyond themselves. It gives us purpose and makes us want to do better for ourselves, our team and ultimately our country.


What networking activities or events do you most enjoy participating in and why?
Our team strives to bond through morale events such as annual summer picnics, burger grills, and employee appreciation events.


What advice do you have for people trying to build a better sense of ownership and relationship with their team?
Knowing your people is important… especially for frontline supervisors. We need to foster an environment where our team feels comfortable coming to us in terms of the good, the bad and the ugly. In most cases, we are the only family they have.

Thank you for your recognition! Working in a prison environment can be a thankless job at times so it is truly amazing.
