Tech has had plenty of success in the 2021-22 season. The Hokies finished fifth or better in four tournaments and sixth twice. Notable team performances include Tech’s top three finishes at the Old Town Club Intercollegiate and the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Azelion, now a senior for hockey, is seen as one of Tech’s top golfers. In 2021-22, Azlion finished with an average of 71.53, second best on the team. Charlie Hanson In the year It’s a name to watch in 2022. The junior competed in four events in 2021 and finished with a 71.83 scoring average, which ranked fourth on the team. It happened during Hanson’s debut at Old Town Club Collegiate. He shot a 3-under 207 to finish tied for 19th place. Hanson will play in No. 2 this weekend.
Young fellow Kobe Valociek He will return for his third season with the Hokies. Valosik competed in seven events and finished with a scoring average of 72.96. Like Hansen, Valosik found success at Old Town Club Collegiate. Valosik finished fourth at Winston-Salem, shooting a 9-under 201 with 12 birdies and an incredible hole-in-one. Valosik had two more top 30 finishes last season.
Drew Brockwell He comes in as one of the hockey veterans for the 2022-23 season. As a senior, Brockwell competed in seven events and averaged 73.14 points. His season-best performance came in round two of the Dorado Beach Intercollegiate. Brockwell shot 2-214 to finish in 22nd place. The fifth year is set to compete at No. 3 for Notre Dame.
After not competing in an event in 2021-22; Cameron Moore The fifth-year golfer and No. 4 return to the fold this weekend for the Hokies. In his 2021 season, Moore averaged 73.43, fourth best on the team, in the seven events he played. At the 2021 Oldfield Invitational, Moore compiled a 5-under 67 in the tournament opener.
David Stanford He will be looking to return and improve on his freshman campaign. Last season, Stanford competed in five events and finished with an average of 74.53. The best score of the season came at the Rod Myers Invitational. Stanford tied for 22nd and finished at 1-under 217 with four birdies. The Vienna, Va., native will compete for the Hokies’ No. 5 this weekend.
Mehrban Singh He is one of the newcomers to Tech men’s golf in 2022-23. From Alexandria, Va., Singh was a three-time letterwinner and two-time state champion at Independence. He took first place at the Rolex Tournament of Champions and qualified for the US Junior Amateur last summer.
Balthazar Duclos Another is a new arrival for the Hokies. Duclos headed to Blacksburg from Garches, France. The country has no high-level golf teams or tournaments, so Duclos played on one of the under-16 teams that competed for the French national championship. Duclos He was on the Golf de St. Cloud team that won the national title in 2018.
The Hokies are set to open the season in the Fighting Irish Classic on September 4th and 5th in South Bend, Indiana. Warren Golf Course is a par 70 course that measures 7,023 yards.
In addition to VT and Notre Dame, ACC rival North Carolina is also in the field this weekend.
