247Sports released its 2023 basketball recruiting rankings Monday and Texas Tech’s class was ranked No. 17 nationally. Drew Steph And Jason Jackson.
Steph, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard from Frisco (TX) Memorial High School, committed to Texas Tech in January over Arizona State, Auburn, DePaul, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Rice, St. Louis, SMU, TCU, Tulane, UTA, UTEP, Western Michigan and Xavier
Steph’s recruiting rankings from 247Sports are down slightly. The three-star recruit is ranked the No. 143 overall player in the nation, the No. 23 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 14 overall player in Texas for 2023 by the 247Sports Composite, a major league average. Hire rating services. 247Sports itself ranks Steph as the class’ No. 28 shooting guard and No. 16 overall recruit in the Lone Star State.
247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Brandon Jenkins projects Stephen as a Power-5 rookie and offers the following evaluation.
“Steph is a long-range shooter who can stick to the three-point shot, especially at the rim. Although he’s more of a floor saver than a true player, Steph can be effective in an offensive structure because he’s so far away from the play. He moves the ball instinctively and goes off the dribble while playing in the flow of the offense. “He’s a playmaker. His confidence and dedication to improving his foot speed enhances his defensive abilities and defines his label as a shooter or a shooter. A scorer.”
Jackson, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard from Riverview High School in Sarasota (FL), committed to Texas Tech in May, announcing offers from Florida, LSU and Virginia Tech.
Although Jackson remains in 247Sports’ Top 150, his national ranking dropped 13 spots in the update. The four-star recruit is rated the nation’s No. 130 overall player, the nation’s No. 18 shooting guard and Florida’s No. 15 overall player for 2023, according to the 247Sports Composite. 247Sports has Jackson ranked as the No. 123 overall prospect in the country, the No. 22 shooting guard in the class and the No. 10 overall recruit in the Sunshine State.
247Sports national recruiting analyst Eric Bossi offered the following assessment after watching Jackson play over the summer:
“Jason Jackson He seems to be a suitable person for the road Mark Adams He likes to do things at Texas Tech. He’s a tall guard who has great burst and burst when going to the rim and makes enough jumpers to keep defenders honest. His body should really explode in the weight room, and he’s got all the tools to be a one-to-three lockdown defender in the Big 12.
