The City of Scottsbluff is leading an effort to re-establish the East Overland Chamber of Commerce.

The area around East Overland Drive had its own business association years ago. Now, the city of Scottsbluff is helping business owners who want to start over.

According to the city’s small business outreach/public relations coordinator Sharaya Tof, local business owners have expressed interest in starting the association again.

“Creating the East Overland Business Association was there when I was hired and when we finished our strategic plan. It’s been something that’s been on my radar since I started,” she said.

The association’s first meeting will be at Rosita’s Restaurant on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. During the meeting, Toph said she is interested in hearing what business owners want the association to become.

You can brainstorm events, start networking, and get a feel for what you want with this kind of effort.

“I want people to be friendly and know that if they want that, they can trust each other,” she said.

Toff said the inaugural meeting will include information on the proposed innovation district, which would include much of the East Overland area. Business owners can learn more about what it is and its impact on the community.

Future meetings will switch locations, meet at different sites, but still plan to meet at 9 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Toph helps with the Broadway-focused Downtown Scottsbluff Association (DSA).

“We’re doing some good things with DSA, so I hope to reflect that… I know this is not something that happens overnight. I think it will be a great thing,” she said.
