The former was appointed as Senior Director of Communications VTX

Virginia Tech Effective September 12, Stephanie Overton ’95 named senior vice president and chief business officer director of communications.

This new liaison role will bridge the operations and administrative enterprises at Virginia Tech. Overton will serve as the communications lead on strategic university operations and will oversee the development of information and messages shared with Virginia Tech and the broader community.

Currently, Chris Cuse serves as interim senior vice president and chief business officer and is responsible for managing day-to-day operations to meet the university’s mission of teaching, research and outreach.

As both interim senior vice president and senior associate vice president for university relations, Overton coordinates communications and marketing initiatives across all operations and business organizations with the university.

“Given the scope of the senior vice president’s role and the importance of balancing and coordinating messages within the classroom and with the campus and community, I am thrilled to have Stephanie join us,” Cuse said. “She will lead a strategically integrated communications team across the university’s financial and operational enterprises through the university’s liaison to the president.”

Overton’s expertise in communications spans more than 25 years in higher education and the private sector. She joined Virginia Tech from Radford University in 2018, serving as Director of Advance Communications and overseeing web/digital communications, publications and marketing for the Advance Office. She led strategic communications and planning initiatives for the university’s comprehensive campaign.

“It is an honor to return to my alma mater during such a time of growth and innovation. “I look forward to combining my Virginia Tech communications experience and expertise to advance the mission of the division and the university,” said Overton. “As always, it’s a great time to be in hockey, and I look forward to working with our teams on campus to support Virginia Tech’s teaching, research and outreach missions.”

Overton graduated from Virginia Tech, now the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in English, sociology and technology.
