PENDLETON, Ore. — Eve Hope (JR/Temecula, CA) scored in the 83rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Jamestown University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over No. 4 Oregon Tech on Friday afternoon.

The neutral site match was originally scheduled to be held in La Grande, Ore., but poor air quality forced the start time to be delayed an hour and the venue changed to Pendleton, Ore.

After being held scoreless in the first two games, Jamestown got on the board with a 20th minute goal by Gabby Sarkis (SO/Campbelltown, Sydney, Australia). In the first minute, both teams tried to shoot at the target, but Jimma managed to score first.

Oregon Tech had back-to-back opportunities at the feet of Shalinai Naputi, but both shots were saved by Jimmy keeper Shay Pence (FR/Hamilton, Ohio). UJ had two more shots in the opening forty-five minutes, a 30th-minute shot by Cassandra Diaz (SR/Montebello, CA) and a 44th-minute try by Sarkis.

The Owls scored in the 58th minute with Ashley Hart off an assist from Giselle Valencia. Both teams were unable to gain offensive control, with UE only managing a 51st-minute goal by Miarosa Gylenswan (SO/Menifee, Calif.) and an 83rd-minute shot by Kiah Wetzel for Oregon Tech.

40 seconds after Pence saved Wetzel, Hope put the Jimmys in front for her first of the season. Oregon Tech’s shot attempts in the final six minutes were high and wide to the right, so that goal looked to be the game-winner.

The Pens outshot the Owls 13-11, but they each stopped UJ with seven shots. Sarkis and Diaz both had two shots on target.

Jamestown (1-2-0) is off Saturday before returning to action Sunday against Northwestern (Wash.) University at 4:30 p.m.
