The Klamath Tribes Youth Conference at Oregon Tech highlights the empowerment of Klamath, Modoc, and Yahuski youth.


The Klamath Tribal Youth Council represents the Yahuskin Tribes of Paiute Indians of Southern Oregon and Northern California and the Yahuskin Snake Band. After learning about the Youth Council at the event, they presented their speech on the third day and voted. The 2022-2023 Klamath Tribal Youth Council has been elected and will represent Klamath County tribal youth and the Klamath Tribes for the coming year.

Adriana Blackwater, Waya Brown, Maggie Hicks, Shakyla Jackson, Maxwell Kimball, Tashina Matt-Collier, Alivia Miller, Shayla Ochoa, Natasha Roberson, Orville Schroeder, Lance Stone, Kathryn Terrell, and Leiloni Wilson were nominated for the show.

“I am always happy to see young people taking positive leadership roles in the community and especially with their respective tribes,” Lopez said. “I want to thank all the staff who helped organize, support and execute an excellent Klamath Tribal Youth Summit.”

Oregon Tech Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion Shawnee Cayetano-Ramos and Klamath Tribes Department of Education and Employment Youth Transition Specialist Aralia Blackwater organized the event on behalf of Oregon Tech and the Klamath Tribes.

“We want to thank everyone who made this event happen,” Blackwater said. “Hess and the defense staff, Shea Scott from Education and Careers, and the team at Oregon Tech including Shawni, Thomas Arce and Dr. Jennifer Wilson.”
