The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists for its 2022 Business Awards


MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists for the 2022 Business Awards.

The Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday, September 2 recognized the achievements and excellence of its members in six categories – Cornerstone (Lifetime Achievement in the Industry), Small Business of the Year, Women/Minority-Owned Business of the Year, Business of the Year, Entrepreneurship and Tourism/Hospitality. The Chamber of Commerce noted that criteria for each award have been drawn up and nominations made. The committee reviewed each nomination and made finalists based on which businesses met the criteria.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate so many great businesses,” said Jason Smith, President and CEO of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. “This is a great opportunity to recognize the importance of the business community to Manhattan’s economy and the quality of life for its residents. We can’t wait to announce the winners on September 13th.

The Chamber of Commerce has indicated that the Business of the Year Award is given to a business organization that demonstrates business and civic leadership in the community. Community involvement, management practices and overall financial performance are the main criteria for this award. The 2022 finalists are McCownGordon Construction, Midwest Concrete and Ultra Electronics ICE.

According to the Chamber, the Small Business of the Year Award is given to small businesses that demonstrate both business and civic leadership. Community involvement, governance practices and overall financial performance are considered for this award, he said. This year’s finalists are Anderson Knight Architects, Manhattan Running Company and Timbercreek Veterinary Hospital.

The Chamber of Commerce said the Women/Minority Ownership Award recognizes diverse business leaders and decision makers in all industries who have demonstrated excellence in supporting others. This year’s finalists include Andrews & Associates Consulting, MHK Play Studio and T&M Concrete.

The Chamber stated that the Spirit of Business Entrepreneurship Award honors people who are at the forefront of their businesses. The nominee demonstrates true entrepreneurial spirit by creating a new business locally – despite the risks. It is said that the entrepreneur is known for creating a new product or service to be offered as well as demonstrating sound business practices. This year’s nominees are Back 9 Development: TJ Vilkanskas, Blueville Children’s: The Westervelt Family and One Egg Team, Ivan and Andrea Grier.

The Chamber of Commerce said the Tourism/Hospitality Award is given to businessmen who have made significant contributions to tourism in the area. This business has created a new, innovative product, policy, service or arrangement to promote and enhance tourism in the community. This year’s finalists are Flint Hills Discovery Center, Liquid Art Winery & Estate and Midwest Dream Car Collection.

Finally, the Chamber of Commerce said the Cornerstone Award is considered a lifetime award for a business that has made a significant impact on society. In 2021, the winner was Manco Window Systems.
