Tech job unemployment rate drops to 1.7%; Job ads 49%
Downers Grove, ill., August 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The technology jobs market continues its growth trajectory, contributing to an unexpectedly strong #jobs report for the month, according to ComTIA’s analysis of the nonprofit information technology (IT) industry and workforce.
Technology jobs across all industry sectors increased by an estimated 239,000 positions in July, according to CompTIA data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).1 In July, the unemployment rate for technology jobs was 1.7%.

“The technology jobs market has consistently outperformed in the face of real and perceived economic weakness,” he said. A closer look at tech posting data from July shows that there are job openings at every experience level, in a variety of occupations, and in every metro market and state.
One in five tech jobs are for positions that require two years or less of experience. About half reported three to five years of work experience, and 13% were looking for candidates with nine or more years of experience.
Software developers and engineers are the most in-demand positions for employers to hire — with nearly 148,000 job postings last month. There is a strong job market for IT support specialists, IT project managers, system engineers and architects, and network engineers and architects. New technologies or jobs requiring new technology skills accounted for one-third of all postings in July.
New York City, Angels And San Francisco Metro markets posted their biggest increase in tech job postings in more than a month. But “under the radar” markets fill this list.

Three job categories in the technology sector posted job growth in July – including other information services, search engines (+6,800), data processing, hosting and related services (+4,100) and computer and electronic products manufacturing (+3,300). Hiring in the IT services and custom software development category was flat, while telecommunications-related jobs declined (-1,400).
