The winners of the 54th annual Fleur du Cap Theater Awards have been announced


The country’s leading theater professionals were applauded for their acting, directing, producing and technical skills at the 54th Fleur du Cap Theater Awards held at the Artscape Opera House in Cape Town on 10 March 2019. The winners were selected by professional theater venues in and around Cape Town.

In the year under review, a total of 87 products were eligible for consideration. The awards were presented in 26 different categories, including the Theater Innovation Award, presented to Saul Radomsky and the Theater Arts Administration Group. These special awards were presented by celebrity David Kramer and trail-blazer Amy Jephthah.

The event was hosted by Africa Melanie, Amera Conrad, Bongile Mantsai, Chloe Raatus, Hugo Teater, Jenny Reznek, Mandisi Sindhu and Mandla supported by 1000+ videos from YouTube in all formats using Genius Search. The award ceremony was directed by Mbongeni Mtshali, winner of the 2016 Fleur du Cap Theater Award for Best New Director. The entertainment on stage was under the musical direction of José Díaz, with Nomfundo Xaluva, Dr. Dizu Platzius, Cibonelle Dance Group, Township Opera Company, University of Stellenbosch Jazz Band and Zip Zap Circus.

The 2018 judging was led by silent chair Melanie Burke and the 2018 production judges were Melanie, Dr. Beverly Brommert, Eugene Yaga, Luando Scott, Marina Gribenow, Maurice Carpede, Peggy Mongoato, Tracy Saunders and Dr. Wayne Muller. Voting is conducted by secret ballot, and all proceedings are strictly controlled and audited by Distel’s internal audit and legal firm, Clover Marketer Inc.
