Located in the California desert, Joshua Tree National Park is named for the rare and beautiful trees that are found in the park. Many national parks are best visited in summertime. However, Joshua Tree’s desert location makes the cooler parts of the year the most ideal to visit. Here are the top 7 reasons to consider visiting this fall.

Temperatures in Joshua Tree National Park can easily soar over 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) during the summer. During the fall – particularly from October through the end of November, temperatures hover in a much more manageable 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit (20-26 degrees celsius) range. This makes exploring the great outdoors not only more comfortable but also safer, as you won’t have to worry quite as much about heat exhaustion or dehydration.

Joshua Tree is home to countless hikes for hikers of all skill levels, and fall is the perfect time to check some out thanks to the lower temperatures. If you’re looking for a beginner friendly hike, check out Arch Rock Trail. As the name implies, this 1.4 mile hike showcases a natural arch in the desert landscape. If you’re up for more of a challenge, Lost Palms Oasis Trail is a 7.5 mile excursion that leads you to a hidden grove of palm trees.

If you love animals, Joshia Tree National Park is a great place to see wildlife in its natural habitat. The park is home to over 50 species of mammals, including coyotes, antelope, and foxes.
