Flagstaff, Ariz — University of Michigan volleyball (3-0) rallied from a first-set deficit to win in straight sets to defeat Utah Tech 3-1 on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 27) at the Rolle Activities Center on campus. Northern Arizona University.
Kendall Murray He led all players with 21 kills and finished the game with a .514 hitting clip. Amber Bills And Hannah Grant He led the Colts with 14 digs.
In a nailbiter of the first set, Michigan could not continue with the Trailblazers (2-1) despite Murray’s eight kills. The opening set featured seven games and two lead changes as Utah Tech took a 1-0 lead.
UM jumped out to a five-point lead in the second set before Utah Tech went on a 6-1 run to tie things up at 12. Both teams were unable to score with a score of 7-1 Jess Robinson, Jess Mruzick And May Pertofsky The Wolverines edged the Trailblazers 25-20 in Group Two.
The first 15 points of the third set were back and forth. With Grant at the service line, however, Michigan went on a 4-0 scoring run and took an 18-14 lead, forcing the underdogs to call a timeout. The last six points featured side raids including a deadly tip. Jacques Boni and held off Murray to force a 25-20 third-set win.
It was all Michigan in the final set with Brooke Humphrey And Murray got out of the gate on a 7-1 run at the service line. On the offensive front, Murray had five kills while Mruzic had four. Mruzic served the Wolverines the final six points to help Michigan win the fourth set 25-9 and take the match 3-1.
The Wolverines finished .321 to .135 in blocks (4-3), kills (61-37), assists (59-33) and digs (58-49) over the Trailblazers.
In addition to Murray’s game-leading 21 kills, Mruzic collected 14 kills and Robinson had 11 kills. Mruzic added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Michigan finished the Lumberjack Classic with a perfect 3-0 record. The Wolverines defeated Old Dominion in the season opener on Friday (Aug. 26) and followed that night with a win over host Northern Arizona before defeating Utah Tech in the final game of the tournament.
UM hosts Toledo in the Wolverines’ home opener on Friday (Sept. 2) at 12:30 p.m. The weekend will feature matchups between Michigan, Toledo, Morehead State and Loyola Chicago as part of the Michigan Invitational.
