VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) – Business owners in Venice were boarding up their windows and doors ahead of the storm on Tuesday.
“I’ve got some guys helping me out here, it’s teamwork, trying to have a good attitude,” said Mike Miller, MPS development and construction manager. We don’t have a saw. So we don’t cut it close; Just cover the windows.
Landfall is now expected just south of the Venice area. Many of the businesses were protected not only by plywood, but also by shutters and sandbags.
Natalie McKinney, owner of a downtown Venice business, describes her efforts in “carrying all local art, pottery, jewelry, all Florida python skins in the shop.”
Some residents are deciding not to leave the storm at home. Many of them are waiting for their homes.
“Definitely high stress, feeling the energy swinging around, trying to stay on task and stay calm,” said Venice couple Mike Aldrich and Megan McGill.
It will be a different story in the next hours, because the biggest storm that will stay in the area for a long time will soon appear.
“The last storm was high and low,” said Alex Pall and his friends. But we’re really excited, there’s no school, school’s canceled.
Water shut off on Venice Island. Zones A and B are currently under mandatory evacuation orders.
