Hunter Cator’s elbow looked pretty healthy tonight. He knocked down his second three-pointer of the game from the top of the key. With the shot clock winding down, Reece Beekman pulls a three-pointer with his hand in his face and buries it. Clarke got into the paint, looked for a defender, and then sent a fantastic bounce pass to Franklin to finish the game with a strong dunk. Tony Bennett called the use or timeout with 1:25 left in the first half.

Jayden Gardner finally ended Virginia’s scoring drought with a mid-range jumper from the baseline. Virginia got a stop and then Gardner went back to work, spinning over Kidd in the post and scoring with a hook shot. Virginia Tech uses some good ball movement to create an open look for Sean Pedula, who drains an open three-pointer from the top of the key to regain the lead. Gardner passed low to Franklin, who posted Hunter on Cator, got him to bite on a pump fake and hit a floater and foul on Cator. Franklin’s free throw capped UVA’s third of the first half. Maddox comes around the screen and hits another jumper. After Vander Plass sets a screen, he pops free, receives a pass from Franklin, and drains a three-pointer despite a tight gap from Mutts. Kihei Clark uses a fantastic in-and-out crossover move to get past Pedula, freeing himself for an easy layup to a wide-open drive to the basket.

Sean Pedula drives over Kei Clark before hitting a layup from the baseline. Grant Basile slipped a screen and rolled to the basket, finishing by Vander Plass and Franklin. The Hokies led by as many as nine points, but now cut it to three with a 6-0 run. Virginia went more than four minutes without a basket. Darius Maddox hit a corner three to tie the game at 19-19 and it was now a 9-0 run for Virginia Tech. UVA comes up empty again and then Maddox hits a hard-fought jumper from the three-point line to give Virginia Tech its first lead of the game.

Beckman completes the game with a three-pointer at the free throw line. The Hokies scored their first field goal of the game five minutes into the game when MJ Collins hit a three-pointer from the left wing. Ryan Dunn made another big play, grabbing an offensive rebound in traffic and putting it off the glass and fouling Basile. Dan made another three-point play for Virginia. Returning from injury, Hunter Cator hit a three-pointer that marked a milestone for the Hokies. Arman Franklin answers with a three-pointer of his own as he drains a triple from the key. UVA doubles in the post and mutts feed to Lynn Kidd, who is wide open for a slam dunk down the lane. Clark is almost lost driving his handle into the paint, but recovers and weaves his way through multiple defenders for a sweet layup. Lynn Kidd scores again, this time with a hook shot over Cadin Shedrick.

On the first possession of the game, Kei Clarke comes free around a screen and then makes a low slant pass to Ben Vander Plass, who takes the opposite position of the glass and scores. Virginia doubled in the post and Justin Mutts passed to Grant Basile on a free throw to the basket, but Vander Plass fouled Basile to prevent an easy layup. Ryan Dunn came on to replace Vander Plass. Basile takes both free kicks. Basile tries to go for Ryan Dunn, but Dunn stands his ground and blocks Basile’s hook shot attempt. Reece Beekman finds Armaan Franklin down for hire. Jayden Gardner’s offensive rebound leads to a second-chance bucket as Franklin reaches for another layup. Keehi Clark picks Sean Pedula’s pocket and takes it the other way for a layup. Virginia got another stop and then Reyes Beekman drove to the basket and finished at the rim and fouled Justyn Mutts. It’s an 8-0 run for UVA and JPJ is going crazy as the Knights build a 10-2 lead.
