Virginia Tech Hokies DB, Brion Murray, suspended for season opener Old Dominion Monarchs ODU 2022 College Football NCAA NCAAF ACC Sun Belt

The Virginia Tech hockey roster took another hit today as redshirt senior Brion Murray was at least suspended for the VT opener against the Old Dominion Monarchs. This information comes on the heels of the revelation that explosive Hokie quarterback, Malachi Thomas, will not play in Norfolk on Friday.

The Roanoke Times reports that Murray was arrested earlier this year on a hit-and-run charge related to several traffic violations in Maryland.

Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry described the incident as “an education for the whole team” and explained how the program aims to provide players with resources to avoid similar problems.

The 5’10”, 190-pound, defenseman transferred to VT from Coffeyville Community College and has played for the Hokies since 2019. During his time with the Fighting Gobblers, Murray played in 31 games and started three in nine games where he collected nine interceptions, nine pass breakups and 55 total tackles. This year, he challenged Armani Chatman for the starting cornerback position and was listed as “Armani Chatman or Brion Murray” on the ODU depth chart, showing the strength of his performance in this year’s camp.

We can expect redshirt freshman Elijah Howard to back up Chatman on Friday night. Hopefully, Murray will learn from his situation and find a way to get back on the field, and good luck to Elias!

GO HOKIES!!!
