Wellesley goes to Rose for Eli Fund
Look out for Wellesley retailers celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by turning the city pink with decorated storefronts and rose-themed events. Some businesses donate a percentage of sales, or collect donations to support the turtle fund.
Support for the Turtle Fund will be held throughout Wellesley the week of October 1-8. More info here on Wellesley Square participants and Linden Square jobs.
The Turtle Fund’s mission is to provide essential support services to breast cancer patients, allowing them to ease the stress of everyday life and focus on family, recovery and healing. The Foundation provides transportation to medical appointments, light housekeeping, meal and grocery assistance, child care payments, well-prepared/delivered meals and integrated treatment services. StretchLab in Linden Square under new ownership
It’s a no-brainer that Dr. Jamie Snead is qualified to assess the safety and effectiveness of his one-on-one studio to help clients stay fit and prevent injuries. Not only is Jamie (who prefers going through the studio) the chief of orthopedics at Stardy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, he’s also gone through the StretchLab training program, which he declares is “very intense.”
The idea behind One-on-One Stretching is that certified “Flexologists” work with clients individually to identify tightness and imbalances and customize a stretching routine. The goal is to gain the freedom that comes with greater mobility and flexibility.
Jamie, along with his wife and business partner Kelly, came across the StretchLab franchise while on vacation in Arizona a few years ago. Try a sample stretch and be amazed. “When we came back here we looked and bought the existing Wellesley Linden Square franchise,” she said.
One of the flex researchers gave me a 30 minute workout for my dry hip flexors when I was there for the studio’s grand opening. Although I still need a hip replacement (they are flexologists, not miracle workers) I come away feeling like my joints have benefited from attention. Most of all, the young woman working with me listened. When stretching me, there was no pressure to endure any pain and he did not make sudden movements during the session.

Wellesley Books Author Tour
In-person author tours are back at Wellesley Books, so I stopped by to see bestselling dynamic authors Julie Murphy and Sierra Simon on their tour to promote their joint effort. A Merry Little Meet Cute. With candid scenes about mental health struggles, sexuality progression, self-acceptance and more, the holiday-themed novel is not your average rom-com romp. What romance novels have in common with that genre is fun, hi-jinks, and humor.
Julie is the author of the Y/A book Dumpling(and the Netflix adaptation starring Jennifer Aniston), about a self-proclaimed fat girl who takes part in an annual beauty pageant in a small Texas town. Sierra, as she delicately put it at Reading , “wrote a little on the spicy side. I like to write a little more than what is forbidden. Medieval bodice rippers featuring ancient and lustful mysteries are in the wheelhouse.
It all started in the back of a van.
Julie and Sierra were ballsy at the sold-out reading, treating the audience to their respective best friends’ origin stories. Like many beautiful tales, theirs began in the back of a van as they embarked on an author tour. Julie agreed to visit, but she had a list of concerns. “I’m not very good with strangers. And I’m not very good at sharing a room with strangers. I like my privacy,” she explained to the audience.
Prepared to hate the plot, Julie prepared her entire lead for the tour. “Hi, I’m Julie Murphy, and I snore sometimes,” she said, introducing herself.
“It’s okay,” Sierra said. “I have narcolepsy, and I can fall asleep through anything.”
That was eight years ago, and they’ve been best friends ever since. A Merry Little Meet Cute It begins when a couple retreats to a small cabin in the middle of Oklahoma just before Christmas. It was a place where they could let Julie and Sierra work at their own rhythm. “These little cottages were always decorated for Christmas, and it really set the mood,” Julie said.
And that feeling came out Nice little encounterSierra said it’s a plus-size rom-com about “a savvy content creator with a savvy entertainment producer with a heart of gold. The business of producing adult films is not as lucrative as it is now. So what if he got into the holiday film industry to make a quick buck?”
Of course, the squeaky-clean Hallmark-type movie star has to keep her regular gig in an adult movie-mystery. Of course, someone on the set knows her secret. Things are about to get so steamy in the city of Christmas Knot that the snow begins to melt.

What’s Behind Wellesley’s ‘Real Estate Renaissance’?
The Charles River Regional Chamber will present an online panel discussion Oct. 6 (12-1pm) in Wellesley on the “Real Estate Renaissance,” a recent topic. Boston Globe An article written by a journalist who interviewed Mr. Swelesley outside, among other locals. The online session is free for members, $20 for non-members.
Wellesley’s real estate moves have included new restaurants and retailers, new multifamily developments and the first phases of a bio lab.
