Ellen DeGeneres’ fashion advisor, Kellen Richards, once revealed her opinion on Brittney Griner’s outfit for the upcoming Menswear ESPY Awards. Richards, who was also Griner’s designer at the time, admitted that her client’s preferences for menswear made it a unique challenge for her. She then proceeded to compare the fashion preferences of her two clients, Ellen DeGeneres and Brittney Griner.
In a backstage interview session on Conan O’Brien’s late night show in 2013, Griner was tasked with choosing an outfit for the upcoming ESPYs with her stylist Kellen Richards. During the interview, Richards got candid about Griner’s fashion choices.

Ellen’s menswear fashion consultant for Brittney Griner
Before appearing on Conan in front of a national television audience, Brittney Griner seemed more concerned about her ESPY outfit three days later. While picking out her clothes, Griner and her stylist indulged in a casual fashion conversation.
In fact, Kellen Richards pointed out the difference in Griner and Ellen’s fashion choices. “With Ellen, we curate womenswear and add menswear”, explained Richards.
“With Brittney, it’s all about men. And it’s sharper“, she added.
Incidentally, Brittney Griner has always been attracted to menswear. In fact, she has always felt uncomfortable wearing women’s clothing. At her graduation, she wore a dress ordered by her mother.
But the dress made him so uncomfortable and ashamed that he had to abandon that path altogether. However, wearing men’s clothing as a woman often drew invectives towards Griner from people online.
Griner’s struggles with gender norms
Brittney Griner has been struggling with gender norms her entire life. From her early days, she faced teasing and bullying because of her unique appearance.

As a 6’9″ WNBA center, Griner clearly does not resemble the exterior of the average woman. As a result, she often faced abuse for her tall and thin features.
In addition, her clothing choices and sexual orientation further highlighted the flood of rumors hurled at her on various platforms. However, the Phoenix Mercury star remains steadfast in her quest to ignore the hateful rhetoric that is aimed at her on a daily basis.
