Hinesville, Ga. (WTOC) – An apparent murder-suicide has occurred in Liberty Square, Hinesville’s popular shopping center.
The Landmark location in Hinesville is closed indefinitely following a shooting that left two people dead Friday.
Law enforcement officials say they found the bodies of Christopher and Terika Williams behind the business in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. The business is now boarded up, and the sign has been removed. All the signs hanging at the entrance indicate the closure of the branch.
Landmark spokeswoman Terika Williams confirmed that she was working at the Hinesville branch where the shooting took place.
“Terica was part of the Hinesville Landmark Branch family, and the entire company is incredibly saddened by her passing,” the company said in a statement.
The company said that Terika had worked for the company on a temporary basis for a short time, but was on track for a permanent position.
Terika’s online obituary said she was originally from Greenville, South Carolina and the mother of two daughters.
Liberty Square Mall is a busy area, and people who come here say this incident is shocking. A man said he was in town on Friday to check out the barber shop next door to where the shooting happened.
“Yes, it was unexpected. You think you’re going to get a haircut, and the next thing you know, there’s police everywhere and shots are being fired,” Rock Lloyd said.
Lee Messert, manager of Liberty Beauty Supply, a few doors down, said she was working at the time of the shooting.
“I was ringing the register and the police opened the door and no one was coming out and we had to lock the store,” Messert said.
Messert locked the store, with his co-worker and about five customers inside. She says she has worked here for 11 years and can’t believe what is happening.
“It was so peaceful here, we didn’t even think this would happen,” she said.
Stores in the mall were forced to close for the rest of Friday.
