SOUTHINGTON, CT – From the pre-Civil War generation to the late 1960s, the fashions of Southington residents in days gone by will be on full display at the Barnes Museum later this month.

Located at 85 N. Main St., the museum on Sept. 26 will introduce a new exhibit called “Thread Through Time – A Timeline of Fashion in Southington.”

From bonnets to bell bottoms, the exhibition will showcase clothing worn by locals over several generations from 1840 to 1970.

“Explore the history of fashion through the accessories, clothing and footwear that defined fashionable clothing for their respective decades during Southington’s evolution,” the museum wrote in an exhibit announcement.

“Great for fashion lovers of all ages, this is the first time the Barnes Museum’s textile collection will be on full display.”

The new exhibition will open on Monday, September 26 and run until Monday, November 7. The museum parking lot can be accessed via Riccio Way.

Entrance tours of the exhibition are available from 1pm to 5pm, Wednesday to Friday, with the last tour starting at 4pm. Tours are also open five days a week by appointment.
