Latest Entertainment News Today Transcript at 11:30 am on 2nd September 2022

You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Bollywood brought to you by The Indian Express.
“Let’s begin with news about Actor Bipasha Basu and her husband Karan Singh Grover, who are expecting their first child together. The couple not only did a special pregnancy photoshoot to make the announcement but have also been sharing their joy on social media with updates for their fans. However, Bipasha admitted that she received some negative comments on her posts as well.

In an interview with The Times of India, Bipasha opened up about how she felt when negative comments were hurled at her. She said that while she understands that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and she respects their right to voice it, her personal life and decisions will never be affected by what others think of her.

“Lyricist-screenwriter Javed Akhtar has opened up about the ongoing cancel culture and boycott trends currently plaguing Bollywood. The veteran lyricist walked the red carpet of Filmfare Awards 2022 with his wife Shabana Azmi and said that these trends were just a ‘passing phase’.

Akhtar was quoted saying, “”If the film is good and is appreciated by the audience, it will work. If it is not good and not appreciated by the audience, it won’t work. I don’t think this kind of announcement of cancel culture and boycott works at all.”

Javed Akhtar’s comments come after Hindi cinema going through one of its lowest phases in its history. ”
“Meanwhile, Dil Se remains Shah Rukh Khan’s first and only film with director Mani Ratnam, and while the film is considered a cult classic today, producers at the time were scared that its tragic ending might not sit well with the audience. Dil Se’s biggest highlight at the time was its dance number ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’, which had Shah Rukh Khan dance atop a train with Malaika Arora.

Filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Bharat Shah suggested that to tone down the tragedy in the film, Chaiyya Chaiyya could play again at the end when SRK and Manisha Koirala hug, but Mani Ratnam did not like the idea, and said, “”‘How can Shah Rukh Khan hug Manisha Koirala and imagine Malaika Arora?’””
“Director Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming fantasy film Brahmastra is just over a week away from release. The film’s co-producer Karan Johar released a new clip from the film, which seemingly teases actor Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in the film, as Vanarastra. While the eight-second video doesn’t reveal Vanarastra’s face, the character appears to be dressed in the same clothes as a previously leaked still, which showed Shah Rukh’s face.

In the video, Vanarastra is seen exhibiting his magical powers as he fights an enemy, before crashing on the floor. Sharing the clip on Instagram, Karan wrote, “The extraordinary power of Vānarāstra will unfold in just 8 days! #Brahmastra in cinemas from 9th September.”

Brahmastra stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan”
“Speaking of Brahmastra, it has been reported that the film has been made on a budget of Rs 410 crore. This would make it the costliest Hindi film of all time. Apart from pan-Indian films such as RRR, 2.0, Saaho, and a few others, the most expensive Hindi film ever made has been YRF’s 2018 period adventure Thugs of Hindostan, which was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 310 crore.

As per Bollywood Hungama, Brahmastra‘s Rs 410 crore budget excludes publicity expenses. The high budget is largely due to the extensive VFX work that has been done on the film. ”
“Actor John Abraham once revealed that he was often encouraged to use his Irani name ‘Farhan’ in the early days of his career. However, he said that he never wanted to change his name despite people pushing him to do so.

Speaking to Simi Garewal, John was asked if he had been pushed to change his name, he said, “There was a movie called Aitbaar before Jism, the producer asked me, ‘John, don’t you have another name?’ So I responded, ‘Yes I know John Abraham sounds like a person who has pizzas and burgers in his house and who cannot fit in here”””
“Lastly, Tiger Shroff has been the star of many blockbusters. However, his recent release Heropanti 2 was panned by critics and the audience and this left him rather heartbroken, as he said during his recent appearance on Koffee With Karan. Tiger also revealed that he is an ’emotional eater’.

During the Koffee with Karan episode, Tiger said, “I was heartbroken. I was depressed. I’m just a very extreme person, I wouldn’t say I sacrificed a lot because I like what I do, and I don’t have a social life and too many friends…””
