Wow, what a week. What week. Things are busier than ever at TechCrunch, where we step out of our conference blur and straight back into a packed news cycle. Of course, Musk is still making waves, but there are startup rounds, chewable layoffs, earnings coverage, unicorn reports, new data, and more to cover.
After breaking through the material and staying still, here’s what Mary Ann, Natasha and Alex came up with this week:
- Rewind wants to help people remember. This week, we’ll talk about how a startup uses recording technology to help you capture what you see, hear and say at your fingertips.
- We talked about Onward, which wants to help divorced or separated parents struggle less about money, and how he’s already thinking about $10 million, despite his already-earned income.
- A bit strange is the IPO-spinoff of Baiju, the consolidation company Akash bought the other year. Our views can be summarized in meme format: An edtech IPO? In this economy?
- Unicorns face an incredibly uphill climb to get public, which may partly explain why Baiju itself hasn’t gone public (remember, it had plans, but like so many other companies they’re on hold).
- And then there was Brax, which announced a new partnership with Techstars despite a big push into the enterprise space.
- Stripe has cut 14% of its workforce, or more than 1,100 people, and CEO and co-founder Patrick Collison admitted that the payments giant was “hiring more than we had in the world.”
- And finally, there’s a new VC rating company in the neighborhood. How do we feel? Better than some VCs, at least.
