Russell Westbrook is focused on building a business empire.

Russell Westbrook of the Los Angeles Lakers has had a tough time over the last several months.

He was traded to the purple and gold a year ago and thought playing in his hometown would be his chance to finally compete for an NBA championship.

Instead, the Lakers didn’t even make the playoffs, and Westbrook was criticized by everyone.

However, off the court, everyone can agree that the University of California, Los Angeles product is a successful and kind-hearted person.

One of the initiatives he is focused on is Russell Westbrook Enterprises, where he is involved in various areas of the business community helping children build a strong foundation for future success.

The former league MVP has set his sights high when it comes to his business interests.

Via Bloomberg:

“Basketball star Russell Westbrook is entering the digital media sector, adding a new segment to his business as he enters the advertising industry.

“The Los Angeles Lakers point guard, who invests and signs partnership deals through his Russell Westbrook Enterprises, is teaming up with digital marketer Causal IQ for a new venture called RW Digital, which connects advertisers with multicultural audiences.

“RWE is now involved in a variety of business lines such as real estate, venture capital, insurance, education and fashion line Prestige ZeGift, partnering with the likes of Nike Inc.’s Jordan Brand and the NBA Players Association. Westbrook has been in the media, producing a documentary for the History Channel that premiered in May.

“‘We kept a lot of things quiet,'” Westbrook said. People only see me on the court, but I want to build an enterprise built the right way. I’ve been shut down all year,’ Westbrook said. ‘This is important for me, for my future, for my legacy, for our children.’

“Obviously, Westbrook has taken full advantage of his position in Los Angeles. There is no doubt that living in such a vibrant and important city helped him expand his empire to a new level.

“It will be interesting to see how his recent trade decisions play out and (especially) what he can do on the court for the Lakers next season.”

Of course, the Lakers are trying to trade Westbrook. However, despite being on another team’s roster after the start of training camp, one should expect him to continue to pour into the Los Angeles community with his trades.
