The day of the Texan volleyball match
After a strong start to the season with three straight wins and nine of 10 sets, Tarleton goes on the road for the first time.
They will head northwest about four hours to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas Tech will pose a challenge for Tarleton as the only Power 5 opponent on the schedule. The trip will be the first time the Texans go to Lubbock.
About the match
• Tarleton heads to Lubbock to play Texas Tech on Tuesday. The match will be the second ever meeting between the two teams. The first meeting came on March 11, 2021 in Stephenville when Texas Tech took the game 3-1.
• Texas Tech is coming off a 2-0 weekend after playing in the Irish Invitational. They beat host Notre Dame 3-1 and also swept Milwaukee.
• Texas Tech made the NCAA Tournament last season, their first since 2001.
• Tarleton head coach Mary Schindler and Texas Tech head coach Tony Greystone are familiar foes, albeit with a different team to Greystone. He was an assistant and head coach at West Texas A&M from 1997-2008. From 2005-08, the two coaches met in eight separate games.

The freshmen
With the addition of six true freshmen to the Texans roster, some of the young image combination immediately contributed.
Megan Hodges (S) She comes to Tarleton from Celina HS and, Schindler said, “is fast, moves the ball well and contributes in a setter role.” She landed on the TGCA Class 4A All-State team in 2019 and 2021.
Brenna McDonough (RS) He comes to Tarleton from Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, FL. “She has what it takes to be a good player in this conference,” Schindler said. She was a member of the AVCA Phenom List.
Ailee’s hair (MB) He comes to Tarleton from Liberty Hill HS. “He’s a versatile athlete and has a high contact point,” Schindler said. Hair has earned all-district honors in each of her three varsity seasons, including 27-4A first-team all-district honors as a sophomore in 2019 and 25-5A first-team all-district honors as a senior in 2021.
Josephine Roberson (oh) He comes to Tarleton from San Marcos HS. In the year She earned first-team All-District 26-6A honors in 2021 and had more than 1,000 kills in her career.
Emma Burke (MB) He comes to Tarleton from Godley HS. According to Schindler, she is a “quick and hard worker.” Burke is versatile, as evidenced by earning District 11-4A Player of the Year in 2021 and District 11-4A Server of the Year in 2020.
Isabella Martinez (DS) He comes to Tarleton from Hendrickson HS. Some of her accomplishments in HS include being the District 18-5A Co-Defensive MVP in 2021, being named to both the AVCA Phenom List and the 2021 AVCA All-Team.
New WAC schedule
This season, the WAC eliminated divisions entirely after acquiring the West and Southwest Division in 2021. The conference’s 13 teams will play each other in preparation for the WAC Volleyball Tournament at the UTRGV Fieldhouse in Edinburg. The top 8 teams will play in the conference tournament.
Next to TARLETON
Tarleton returns home to host the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic. Southeastern Louisiana, Tennessee State and Prairie View A&M round out the field. Tarleton begins play on Friday against SLU at 10 a.m. All Tarleton matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
