The ruling Communist Party’s anti-corruption agency said on Saturday that the deputy governor of China’s central bank was being investigated for “serious disciplinary and legal violations”.
But the Central Commission for Disciplinary Supervision did not provide any internal details of the allegations against Fan Yifei in a brief posted online.
One of the six vice governors, Yifei joined the People’s Bank of China in 2015 and has been in charge of finance for more than seven years. Lately, China has been vocal about its efforts to establish and promote digital currency.
Chinese Communist Party leader and politician Xi Jingping launched a campaign that won him popular support and took on some of his primary political rivals.
