Demand for digital jobs is growing and business and government leaders must step up to ensure no one is left behind, according to a report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in partnership with Randstad.
It saw 417 million online job ads in 10 countries.
Sander van Nordende, CEO of Ranstad, said: “We are all in the middle of a big change in the way we work and it brings challenges.”
“To find opportunities in this new world of work, we all need to focus on how we can adapt, adapt and embrace technology,” Van ‘t Nordende continued. “But there is a danger that people will be left behind. I believe that business leaders and policy makers must step up to ensure that the digital revolution is equal for all workers.”
In the US, online job postings for digital jobs have increased 24% over the past four years, led by a 116% increase in advertising for data engineers, according to the report.
Software developers, programmers and engineers are particularly interested. In the UK, approximately 2 in every three online job adverts for digital professionals are looking for software developers and programmers. In Canada, Singapore and Spain, software developers and engineers account for nearly 50% of all postings for digital professionals. In Germany and France, the share of job advertisements for software developers and programmers is slightly lower, but still large, at 37% and 36%, respectively.
Computer and data analysts or managers represent approximately one in five of the digital jobs selected in the 10 countries analyzed.
Digital jobs account for the largest share of job vacancies posted online and account for the following percentage of all job postings, according to the report. Here are the percentages by country in the 10 countries monitored:

Fast-growing skills cited in the report include advanced data analytics, cybersecurity, programming, automation and the Internet of Things, and digital skills related to business and sales.
