Hailing from Northern Virginia, Harrison didn’t originally plan to come to Blacksburg, but ended up in the neuroscience school.
“I’ve lived in so many places. [following the NFL career of her father, Nolan Harrison] That I want to go to college other than Virginia State. It was my parents who said, ‘You have to give Virginia Tech a chance, and if you don’t like it, you can transfer after your first semester.’ “I really liked it right away, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else. It’s perfect for my major, so it worked out exactly how I thought it would.”
Fortunately, Harrison and Thomas didn’t meet during their first two years at Virginia Tech, but they had a lot in common when they started the pre-ID program at the medical school.
“It’s crazy that we’re both from Northern Virginia in this new, small major and have a lot of the same classes, but we don’t really know each other,” Thomas said. “Part of it was because of the Covid restrictions we were wearing masks at the time, but part of it was the nature of the room. And now, through this program, we are having this amazing experience together during the summer in Roanoke.
