Wichita, Kan. (KWCH) – On Monday, business students at Wichita State University celebrated their first day getting used to their new home. The Barton School of Business has opened Woolsey Hall, a $60 million facility aimed at creating new and improved learning for students.
“The energy of this building is the most unique thing. When you walk in the door and into the atrium, you experience the building as a whole at the same time,” said Duane Nagel, professor of marketing at Woolsey Hall.
The new facility million sparked excitement for some students that could make a big difference in the classroom.
I walked in this morning at 7:30 and saw a student sitting in one of the classrooms making a 360 video to show where they are. “So any time that level of excitement about being here definitely carries over into their educational experience,” Nagel said.
“It brings you the mood,” said student Jaci Charbonneau. “Clinton was kind of old and dark and it made you happy with all the windows and … it’s a new place, it’s exciting and you look forward to going to school.”
What stands out among students is access to technology. There is a computer lab on each floor. Students say access to a computer is important, especially if they don’t have their own. They say they appreciate the flexibility.
“Technology allows us to support many different types of learning and things of that nature online, which is a big part of where we’re going right now,” Nagel said.
Another tool is available in the Koch Global Trading Center where students have the opportunity to check the stocks of the day. It gives them all an unforgettable learning experience.
“I think it’s a great addition to the Barton School and really bringing forward what we’re doing here and giving our students an experience and really helping them maximize their time here,” Nagel said.
