Meta Avatars graphics enhancement is Mark Zuckerberg’s concept technology art.

After Zuckerberg posted a selfie from Horizon Worlds last week, a crude and graphic simplistic avatar took to social media — his current meta avatar. Current consumer headsets do not have built-in face-tracking sensors, so VR simulation system designers tend not to show too much untracked detail, as the user may point to a deadpan expression or a neutral expression that looks lifeless. Additionally, VR simulation systems are designed to look good in real-time head- and hand-tracking-driven headsets — not 2D visualizations.

Meta’s CEO responded to this mockery last Friday with a picture “Coming Soon” Teasing Graphic Updates:

But LinkedIn’s post shows that this is more of a technology proof than a snapshot of the new avatar system. It was created by Meta 3D character artist Dylan Dunbar. Dunbar described creating Zuckerberg’s new avatar “from scratch.”

“It was shot, filmed, lit, Texas-made and delivered in real time in less than 4 weeks […] “We went through maybe 40 iterations at that point before we got to something we were happy with,” the article explains.

To be clear – this is not just a wishful thinking approach. That’s why we call it a “technological concept” – the model is being displayed, according to Dunbar, in real time, but he didn’t specify on what hardware.
